  2. Click on “Create Study”

  3. Enter a name for your study

Associating Data Sources#

You can enhance your study by connecting it with external data:

  • Microsoft Excel spreadsheets

  • Google Sheets

Tip

We provide template sheets for both experimental and computational studies to help you get started.

Study Types#

Materials Commons supports two primary types of studies:

Experimental Studies#

  • Focuses on physical samples

  • Includes experimental metadata

  • Tracks sample preparations and measurements

Computational Studies#

  • Handles simulation data

  • Tracks computational parameters

  • Manages calculation results

Note

We recommend starting with one of our template sheets to understand how Materials Commons organizes:

  • Sample data

  • Computational results

  • Associated metadata

Quick Start Guides & Templates

We provide ready-to-use guides and template sheets to help you get started:

Experimental Studies
Computational Studies

Each guide comes with example Google Sheets that you can:

  • Copy as templates for your own studies

  • Load directly into Materials Commons to explore the features

  • Use as reference for structuring your data
